Confident Hope
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
A mentor of mine once said to me, “Hope is a precious commodity these days.” I couldn’t agree more. It seems like everyone is searching for it, yet few truly possess it. Honestly, if I only go by what I see around me, there are plenty of reasons not to hope.
Many of us have come to believe that hope is simply optimism—a belief that the future will be better than the present. But hope rooted in Christ is far more than that. It is faith grounded in the truth of God’s love for us.
How do we know God loves us? He gave His most prized possession—His very own Son—as a gift for us, so that we might see, hear, and know Him as He truly is. This is not the action of a God who merely wants us to know things or do things. He desires that we know Him intimately and experience His love.
This kind of hope gives us confidence for the future and transforms the way we live today. Yes, we long for a better future that will come when Christ returns. But we don’t have to wait until then to begin experiencing its reality. Even now, we can see, hear, and experience the kingdom of God breaking into our lives—a foretaste of the full restoration that is to come.
This is the hope we are all so desperate for.
Whether you’re in a season of life that feels good or one that has been deeply difficult, I pray this is good news for you: there is hope in the person and work of Jesus.
