Covered By Grace

In many areas of my life, I’m a perfectionist. I double- and triple-check things, and even the smallest mistakes drive me crazy. So last week was especially humbling when I realized I had made a big mistake on the beautiful Mountain Ministry calendars that were going to be given out on Christmas Eve. When I changed the size of the calendar, I didn’t notice that several national holidays were on the wrong dates.

Thankfully, we came up with a plan to fix them with sticker labels. My husband and I corrected almost 300 calendars, but we realized we couldn’t do it alone! A group from Waterville and Loon each offered to help. I am so deeply thankful for the community that stepped in so graciously!

As I applied the stickers over my now very visible mistakes, I kept looking at the rest of the calendar and thinking, I hope people see the calendar for what it truly is and that their attention doesn’t rest solely on the stickers, but instead on the beautiful photos and what they represent. How incredible is it that we get to worship God in such stunning locations, surrounded by an amazing community and reaching out to those enjoying the mountains?

In life, it’s easy to feel discouraged when we make mistakes and to feel like that defines us. But God meets us with open arms, even when our failures feel so weighty.

During this season of Advent, as we reflect on the birth of Jesus, we are reminded that He came into a broken world to walk alongside us in our humanity and to redeem what was lost. When you see a sticker covering a mistake on the calendar, I pray it serves as a small reminder to turn to Jesus—and to trust that nothing is beyond His redeeming power.
