Everyday Worship Leaders
"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." - 1 Peter 3:15
Did you know that all followers of Jesus are called to be worship leaders? Before you get nervous about performing on stage, let me explain… Leading others in worship is much broader than what happens up front during the first twenty or so minutes of a church service. Romans 12:1 says "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship".
To worship means to do anything in a way that leads to God receiving glory. Anything! There are constantly opportunities to point yourself and others towards Jesus in the normal stuff of life. Maybe it looks like going to a party and bringing the "better wine" (literally or figuratively) as Jesus did in his first miracle. It could also look like going to work, resting and rejoicing in the finished work of Christ. Instead of working to gain acceptance from God or others, you can work as an act of worship remembering that when God looks at you, he sees the work of Jesus and has generously provided for all of your needs. Even something as simple as eating can remind us of the truth that we are meant to be sustained by an external source and it is Jesus, the bread of life, who has and continues to meet our greatest needs.
The story of God’s redemption in Jesus Christ is at the core of who we are as believers and it is meant to be the foundation for everything we do. It is the greatest story of all time! May it shape the way we worship, live and share God's love with others. If you do what you're already doing with this kind of intentionality, you will find that people are curious why, which will lead to opportunities to share Christ with others and lead them in worshiping Him.
