Lessons from Lot’s Wife
“Flee for your lives! Do not look back or stop anywhere in the plain” - Genesis 19:17 NIV
As the sun began to rise over the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot and his family were urged to flee for their lives. The angels warned them. Yet, amidst the chaos of escape, Lot’s wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt (Gen 19:26). Her act of looking back serves as a reminder of the dangers of longing for the past.
What prompted Lot’s wife to look back? Perhaps it was a yearning for familiarity, a nostalgic grip on the life she was leaving behind, or a sense of loss for what was known. In our own lives, we often find ourselves caught between the past and the future, tempted to linger on what was rather than focusing on what lies ahead. Jesus echoes this sentiment in Luke 9:62, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” There is profound truth in these words. Looking back can hinder our progress, cloud our vision, and prevent us from fully embracing the new opportunities God has in store.
Are there relationships, mistakes, or fears that keep pulling you back? The call to follow Christ is a call to move forward, leaving behind what no longer serves us. Make a conscious choice to release these burdens. Write down what you need to let go of, and submit it in prayer to God.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons from Your Word that guide us. Help us to release any burdens from our past that keep us from moving forward in faith. Give us the strength and courage to let go of distractions and attachments that hinder our commitment to You. May we fix our eyes on Jesus, trusting in His perfect plan for our lives. As we embrace the future You have for us, fill our hearts with hope and excitement for what lies ahead. Lead us in Your ways and help us to serve You wholeheartedly, without looking back. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Embrace the freedom that comes with moving forward. Your best days are still ahead.
