Lessons Learned at the SFC Conference
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” - Psalm 37:4-5
A few weeks ago, representatives Eunice Jenkins and Chloe Astholz attended the 2026 Skiers and Snowboarders for Chris Conference. This year's conference took place in South Tahoe, California. Over 50 skiers and snowboarders gathered together to share their love of snowsports and Jesus.
Chloe: As the 2026 Loon Mountain Ministry winter intern, this was my first time attending an SFC Conference. I have been to a few SFC northeast retreats, which has always been an uplifting and exciting experience to see the love of adventure sports and God combined, so this was a really cool experience to gather with an even larger and more diverse crowd from this community. My biggest take away from the sessions was the focus on living a life of following Jesus, not just for personal benefit or for show. The phrase, “it's easy to wear a cheap Jesus loves you t-shirt, but it’s expensive to actually live a life like it,” really resonated with me. It reminded me of the priceless gift it is to be chosen and have a life with God and how you have to make conscious decisions to be more like Him. The more time we spend in God’s light, the more we can shine it on others. Striving for a life with Jesus comes for a cost, but the outcome is anything but cheap. The conference was overall an amazing time of inspiring words, new friendships, and of course some gnarly riding in the best powder of my life. Thank you Jesus!
Eunice: I have been blessed for many years of attending the annual SFC Conference and the speaking sessions were encouraging times in the Word as usual. However, this year, I was most challenged by the reminders God brought through His Word in the troubles we experienced both traveling to and from the conference with various cancellations, delays, lost baggage, sickness/injury, and more.
It brought to mind this passage from Psalm 37:4-5, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” Often this passage can be wrongly interpreted to preach a prosperity gospel, but this passage is a great reminder to me that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, He changes the desires of our hearts to yearn for whatever be His will, and that leads us to a hopeful and positive outlook when circumstances are less than ideal because we trust His change of plans is for our good and He will act. And He did! Despite issues that arose and travels delayed, God certainly cared for us and met our needs.
Overall, we are very thankful for the opportunity to attend this year’s SFC Conference!
