In His Right Place

“Look at the shrines on every hilltop. Is there any place you have not been defiled by your adultery with other gods? You sit like a prostitute beside the road waiting for a customer. You sit alone like a nomad in the desert. You have polluted the land with your prostitution and your wickedness." Jeremiah 3:2 NLT

You may not have constructed an idol of wood or metal on a hilltop, but all of us have idols of some kind.

When I read this passage of Scripture this morning, God put on my heart the words "habits" and "tasks."

While reading my Bible this morning, various things I had to do kept popping into my mind and distracting me.

In our day to day, there are so many things to be done. Dishes to wash, laundry to be folded, food to be made - just to list a few as the stay at home mom I am. Maybe for you it's work to get to, grocery shopping to do after, phone calls to make, ect.

Without the right heart, these tasks or habits we do daily can easily become idols. We must be continually evaluating our hearts as we do these things.

A.W. Tozer said "As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once." Is God in the right place in your life?

No matter how "good" or "necessary" the task, if it is not done from a heart of worship and thanksgiving to God, it becomes idolatrous very quickly. It becomes worship of productivity or self or others - the list goes on.

As we go about this week, let's ask ourselves these questions: 1) What am I doing? 2) Why am I doing it? 3) Do I need to repent of bad motivation and ask God to help me put Him in His right place?
