Life and God’s Faithfulness

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Some time ago I was watching a video of a guy named Steve Rinella on a moose hunt deep in the Brooks Range of the Alaskan wilderness (one of the few remaining untouched spaces in North America). For a brief moment, he reflected on how drastically his life had changed over the last ten, twenty and thirty years. In contrast, he compared the drastic changes in his life to the vast wilderness that stood before him, which has remained largely unchanged for hundreds and hundreds of years. This perspective on life and time moved him deeply as he sat and looked out into the great expanse.

Our relationship to change intrigues me. In almost any context, we need change. Although it can be difficult, most will admit in some capacity that change is good. In fact we're made this way. We were designed to grow and progress physically, mentally, and spiritually. However, most people feel a sense of trust and comfort in things that are unchanging. Why is that? I think it's because we have a God given sense that the source of all comfort comes from one who does not change all.

With life comes change. Try not to fear it. Learn from it as much as possible. But find comfort in the fact that there is a God who does not change and in him is all peace, joy and security.
