Psalm 146

It almost never happens this way, but every once in a while I’ll randomly open my bible and read a passage that so clearly speaks to me. Yesterday, that passage was Psalm 146:

“Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish” (vs 3-4).

These verses ring true in the current climate of our culture where so many leaders and institutions, both christian and non christian, are claiming to be the foremost source of help and hope for the future. The Psalmist goes on to remind us where our ultimate help and our hope should rest and even gives a list of reasons why!

”Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin”(vs.5-9).

These verses serve as a great reminder to me, when I become discouraged over the failings of men that my help and my hope are not found in the leaders and institutions of the world, but in the Lord who is over and above them all!

“The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!” (vs.10).

Have a great week!
