Telling Your Story
Last week one day during my devotional, I switched it up and picked up a book called "Tales from the Tribe," written by a missionary to unreached people groups. The devotional that day told the story of a blind man named Bruno who came to know the Lord. That night, we hosted our missional community group as normal at our house and we heard the story of another man who was previously addicted to drugs and alcohol snd came to know the Lord.
I don't know about you, but hearing stories like those are always so encouraging to me. Firstly, because they are direct evidence to how God is working, moving, and redeeming. Secondly, because stories are relatable. This second part is important to emphasize in how we relate to others.
The act of telling a story from your life is perhaps one of the best ways you can lead into sharing the Gospel with someone. Take for example the new hit show, The Chosen. There are so many raving over it, Christians and non-Christians alike. Why? Because it draws the reader in through story. The plot, character development and relatability to the disciples and other characters in the show captivate the viewer. Yes, we can also relate to and learn from the Bible and that is our ultimate source of truth, but it takes a lot more studying and time.
Beginning to read the Bible may seem a daunting task to the nonbeliever, or even just something they are unwilling to do. However, God created us as relational beings. He created us in His image (Gen. 1:26) and He Himself is relational, Three in One. Since we are created relationally, it only makes sense that we are lovers of story.
By story we share what God has done, whether it be the story of our salvation or of His working in our day to day life. In this sharing we tell of both our struggles and triumphs, things others face each day, and how God has redeemed, is redeeming, or will redeem it. So, tell your story and use it as a bridge to lead into HIS story, the GREATEST story of all time, the story of a Father who loved us so much He sent His Son for our salvation.
