The Bread of Life

"I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger and whoever believes in me will never thirst." - John 6:35

Happy Labor Day! I hope you're able to spend a portion of the day enjoying a meal with family, friends or neighbors. Sharing a meal is one of the oldest and greatest ways to care for others, express friendship and foster unity amongst people. When we share a meal, we partake in a common provision from an external source that requires life to produce and gives life to those who consume it. I believe the food we eat and the meals we share are more than just fuel. Meals have spiritual significance. Throughout the bible, meals are used as a metaphor of God's physical and spiritual provision for his people. The passover meal, the last supper, the wedding feast...Each of these meals are meant to point us to one thing...One person.
In John 6:35 Jesus says, "I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger and whoever believes in me will never thirst." We all hunger for something more than just food. We are hungry for life. True spiritual life. The life we hunger for can only be satisfied by something outside of us, someone much greater than us. The question is: who or what do we look to for life? I invite you to join us this weekend, in person or online as I preach on and explore these words of Jesus from John 6.Have a great week!
