Weary Travelers

"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” - Hebrews 13:15-16

If you have ever traveled down Main Street in Lincoln on a sunny day between June and September, you have probably seen an Appalachian Trail through hiker. They are easy to spot with their hiking poles, untamed hair and beards, backpacks, wool socks and of course their smell(if you get close enough)! By the time they reach Lincoln, most have hiked close to 2000 miles and are quite weary from the physical, emotional and spiritual journey they have experienced over the last 3-5 months. I love the opportunity we have to be an encouragement to these hikers and share the love of Christ! One of my favorite ways to do that is to give them rides to or from the trail which intersects Route 3 and Route 112 about 10 minutes from town. I'm always amazed at how God can use just ten or fifteen minutes to open up conversations about life, faith, struggles and victories with people I've never met!
They may not stick out like through hikers in Lincoln, but I am willing to bet there are spiritually, physically and emotionally weary people in your community that you can help or encourage in the grocery store, on the roadside or walking down your street. Step out in faith and lend a helping hand. Who knows how God will use your brief encounter to impact someone's life for eternity!
